Just when you thought
that the office suite market was getting dull and boring and
everyone has accepted Microsoft Office as inevitable, things are
getting interesting again: SoftMaker Office 2004, a brand-new
office suite from Germany, has been released today.
SoftMaker Office 2004 contains counterparts to the two most
important programs in Microsoft's application suite, Word and
Excel: TextMaker is a fully Microsoft Word-compatible word
processor and PlanMaker is the most Excel-compatible spreadsheet
on the market now.
TextMaker is lightning-fast and reliable, needs little memory,
and offers the rich feature set of Microsoft Word. Most
importantly, TextMaker reads and writes all Microsoft Word files
from 6.0 up to the current Word 2003 seamlessly.
PlanMaker offers the feature set and ease-of-use of a modern
high-end spreadsheet application and is closely modeled after
market-leading Microsoft Excel. Its key features are more
than 320 calculation functions, seamless import and export of
all Microsoft Excel files, fully Microsoft Excel-compatible
charting, and full support for Microsoft Excel's AutoShape
drawings. If you can do it in Excel, you can do it in PlanMaker!
SoftMaker Office 2004 for Windows carries a suggested retail
price of US$69.95 or EUR 69.95 and is available through
resellers and directly from SoftMaker.
Versions of SoftMaker Office for Linux, for Pocket PCs, and
