New Nokia Car Handset is ideal for making private in-car phone calls   Tuesday, September 7 2004

Developed for users of the Nokia 610 Car Kit Phone, the new Nokia Car Handset (HSU-4) allows for private conversations by routing calls through the conventional handset rather than through the handsfree speakerphone.* This allows the user to enjoy clear sound quality without disturbing other passengers in the vehicle.

Besides the privacy function, the handset also includes 4 function keys and the Nokia Navi(TM) Wheel, making it easy to navigate the functions of the Nokia 610 Car Kit Phone. From the handset, users can manage contact details, access speed dialing, and use the menu of the Nokia 610 Car Kit phone. Since the layout is identical to the existing input device of the Nokia 610 Car Kit Phone, users can add the Nokia Car Handset without needing to relearn how to use the device.

"The handset is a particularly sensible option for people who make frequent phone calls from their vehicle. It is easy to install, convenient to use, and adds a level of privacy not previously possible," said Uwe Pertz, general manager of consumer products, Nokia Smart Traffic Products. "With this product, we have created an accessory that will satisfy the needs of the most demanding users of mobile vehicle communications devices."

The Nokia Car Handset is now available as a separate enhancement for the Nokia 610 Car Kit Phone in Europe and Asia.

In a separate announcement today, Nokia also introduced the Nokia 9300, a smartphone that is compatible with the Nokia 610 Car Kit phone. This new device supports the Bluetooth SIM Access Profile**, which gives the Car Kit Phone wireless access to the SIM card of a compatible mobile phone. The Nokia 9300 is expected to be available starting 1st quarter 2005.
