TextMaker 2006 for Pocket PCs Goes to Beta Monday, April 10 2006 Nuernberg, Germany -- April 10, 2006 -- German software vendor SoftMaker announced today the start of public beta testing of its new word processor for Pocket PCs, TextMaker 2006. When TextMaker was first introduced for the Pocket PC three years ago, it was an overnight sensation: Finally it was possible to do real word processing on these mobile devices. Finally it was possibe to open a Microsoft Word file, work on it, and save it back, with formatting and content intact. TextMaker has been completely overhauled in the 2006 release and introduces many significant improvements, such as: * Updated import and export filters for Microsoft Word * Import of OpenDocument and OpenOffice.org documents * A complete AutoShapes-compatible drawing layer built in * "Track changes" just like in Microsoft Word * Comments that appear as "balloons" * Long-document features such as a bibliography * ... and much more Tables are much more capable now. Cells can be merged and split, headers can be made to repeat on every new page, and true nested tables are supported. The user can even rotate the contents of individual cells. TextMaker 2006 offers full Unicode support for composing documents in the world's languages. But it doesn't stop there: The users can set menus and dialogs to display in their native languages: TextMaker comes with user interfaces in English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Turkish, Hungarian, Chinese, and Japanese. As a member of the OpenDocument Format Alliance (odfalliance.org), SoftMaker takes pride in its support of the OpenDocument file format: TextMaker 2006 reads OpenDocument files with high fidelity, and saving in this format is being worked on by SoftMaker's developers right now.
