BEIKS announces BlackBerry English-Spanish translator for paramedics, fire fighters and other emergency workers  Tuesday, March 21 2006

The paramedic's English-Spanish translator for BlackBerry is aimed at emergency personnel with little or no knowledge of Spanish language who have to operate in environment likely to require such knowledge; it has been assembled by operational paramedics over the course of their field experience over the years.

Included are approximately 800 essential words and phrases. Those include cover questions, commands, people, places, conditions, drugs, medications, anatomy terms and more.

Once fully installed, the phrase book does not require or utilize wireless connection, making it reliable source even in areas without network coverage.

A handy lookup function provides for instant filtering of all included entries containing the desired word or token.

BEIKS is the first company to introduce such phrase book to the BlackBerry community, as well as the first to enhance it with audio pronunciations by a native language audio pronunciation.

The phrase book is designed to work on any BlackBerry handheld running BlackBerry OS version 4.0 or higher.

The audio pronunciation is optional and will only operate on devices equipped with hardware to allow ADPCM or MP3 encoded audio playback. Those include, but are not limited to the following:

  • BlackBerry 7100 series (excluding 7100i model)
  • BlackBerry 7105 series
  • BlackBerry 7130 series
  • BlackBerry 8700 series

A trial version of the product is available in the BlackBerry section of the BEIKS website at http://blackberry.beiks.com.

Once installed, the product can be purchased and activated directly from the BlackBerry's built-in browser or via regular desktop browser.

The price for a single license is only $24.95. Site licenses at discounted prices are also available.
