Nokia 6630 smartphone selected by TIM to 3G handset portfolio   Friday, November 26 2004

Nokia today announced that TIM (Telecom Italia Mobile), the leading mobile telecoms operator in Italy, running operations in Greece, Turkey and almost all over South America, has selected the Nokia 6630 smartphone for its 3G WCDMA product portfolio. The Nokia 6630 phone offers online e-mail, the possibility to download and view e-mail attachments while on the move, mobile broadband access to multimedia content, live video streaming and video conferencing.

"We are very happy to work closely with TIM to ensure their customers can use the Nokia 6630 smartphone to take full advantage of the high-speed 3G networks and to show that the 3G mass market is here," said Tuula Rytilä-Uotila, Director, Imaging, EMEA, Multimedia, Nokia.

TIM and Nokia are also collaborating on launching a Video Sharing service for TIM's customers in Italy. Video Sharing is a new multimedia service that enriches 3G mobile users' communication by allowing them to share a live camera view or a video clip while speaking on their mobile phone. TIM's innovative mobile TV services also enable 3G customers to watch TV programs live on the Nokia 6630 smartphone's large color display.

The Nokia 6630 smartphone will be available through TIM stores in Italy. Based on Symbian OS, the Nokia 6630 phone is a tri-band handset designed to work on 3G (WCDMA), EDGE and 2G (GSM 900/1800/1900) networks around the world. Compared to current GSM networks, WCDMA enables more than ten times higher data speeds and better quality of service to mobile and portable wireless devices. Weighing 127 grams and measuring 110 x 60 x 21 mm, it is currently the lightest globally available megapixel dual-mode phone for GSM and WCDMA networks.
