Spb Software House Releases Spb Insight - a Full-Text Pocket PC News Reader  Tuesday, October 17 2006

October 17, 2006 - Spb Software House, the leading Pocket PC software developer, releases Spb Insight - a new Pocket PC News Reader which provides full-text articles with pictures for handy and fast offline reading.

Throughout the day we all have those many periods of time that are too short to be useful but too long to be wasted. Examples could be standing in line or waiting at the airport. A Pocket PC can be used to fill these intervals of time with reading books, or playing small games, etc. How about the news? Typical news web pages aren't designed for small Pocket PC screens and can take minutes to download. RSS readers help in this situation, but usually provide only summaries and links to original articles, which bring us back to online browsing.

Spb Insight was designed to overcome these shortcomings. Besides being a powerful Pocket PC RSS reader, Spb Insight provides full article texts instead of typical RSS article summaries. Original article web pages are specifically optimized for Pocket PC screens using unique Spb Insight channel technology.

-------------------------------------------

At this moment there are over 1000 popular news channels that are optimized for small screens and the number is growing rapidly, thanks to the open support community. All optimized channels are created by individuals and are not part of the program. These channels, as well as most popular RSS channels, are freely available through the Spb Insight Online Catalog. Available right on your device, with subcategories and sorted by popularity, the Online Catalog makes it easy to choose new interesting channels whenever you want. Spb Software House provides no preinstalled channels in this version.

Along with optimized channels, Spb Insight supports all versions of RSS and Atom news feeds, as well as importing feeds from local and online OPML files. Spb Insight provides channel and article thumbnails, as well as intuitive one hand navigation to make the user interface as easy to use as possible.

Spb Insight can work without a desktop computer, too - just use your wireless internet connection to add and update channels. To save traffic and time, you have control over what particular channels to update, in what order and whether to download pictures and full-text web pages or not. To save even more time, downloaded articles can be read right away, even while other articles and channels are being updated.

A short summary of Spb Insight features:

* Full-text website news using "optimized" channels
* Full RSS/Atom support (RSS 0.9x, 1.0, 2.0; Atom 0.3, 1.0)
* Offline reading with pictures
* Easy to use interface
* Simultaneous updating and reading
* One hand navigation
* Article thumbnails
* No desktop component needed

Skweezer Selected by Ask.com for New Ask Mobile Search  Thursday, October 12 2006

IRVINE, Calif., October 12, 2006—Greenlight Wireless Corporation announced that its Skweezer technology, which optimizes Web content for mobile devices, has been integrated into the new Ask Mobile (http://mobile.ask.com) which was launched today.

Ask Mobile users who click on a search result, or any other link that leaves the site, access an optimized version of the target Web page created by Skweezer. Skweezer's proprietary compression algorithms, developed and refined over the past five years, significantly reduce Web content typically to 15% or less of its original file size. This allows Web pages to load much more quickly and has the added benefit of greatly reducing bandwidth requirements. Web pages viewed through Skweezer are also intelligently reformatted, providing intuitive and convenient access to content from a small-screen device.

Ask Mobile users can also load RSS feeds through Skweezer, allowing access to lightweight versions of syndicated content ideally suited for the mobile environment. Skweezer technology is completely platform independent and can be used with Pocket PC, Palm, Symbian, MS Smartphone, Blackberry, PSP2, and XHTML-based cell phone devices.

"The new Ask Mobile makes it easy for users of Web-enabled cell phones, PDAs and other mobile devices to take advantage of the world-class relevance and superior search tools offered by Ask.com," said Doug Leeds, vice president of product management for Ask.com. "The integration of the Skweezer technology accelerates page loads and optimizes content for small mobile displays, directly improving the mobile experience for searchers."

"Every time I use the Ask.com search engine, I'm blown away by the quality of the results combined with its ease-of-use," says Kevin Perkins, CEO of Greenlight Wireless. "Now that they've entered the mobile space, we're naturally glad to be contributing to this effort."

Skweezer Selected by Bloglines to Improve Mobile Experience  Friday, September 22 2006

IRVINE, Calif., September 22, 2006—Greenlight Wireless Corporation announced that its Skweezer technology, which optimizes Web content for mobile devices, has been integrated into the mobile version of Bloglines (www.bloglines.com), the world’s number one online RSS aggregator.

Bloglines Mobile (mobile.bloglines.com) users now view "skweezed" versions of the Web pages they access through their favorite RSS feeds. This allows Bloglines to both accelerate download speeds and present content that is easier to view and navigate on the small displays found on cell phones and PDAs. With the Skweezer technology, Bloglines also provides mobile access to more content than ever before by using Skweezer's paging feature, which allows Web pages to load that would otherwise be too memory-intensive for most devices.

"The Skweezer technology provides a significantly improved experience for Bloglines Mobile users by speeding download time and optimizing content for small mobile displays,” said Robyn DeuPree, Sr. Product Manager for Bloglines, a division of Ask.com. “Our Bloglines Mobile users love the current product, and the Skweezer technology makes the experience even better.”

"Bloglines is the industry-leading RSS reader with a proven history of innovation," says Joey Lynch, VP of Business Development at Greenlight Wireless. "Once again Bloglines has taken a leadership position in the mobile RSS space and we're very pleased to be contributing to this effort."

Skweezer's proprietary compression algorithms, developed and refined over the past five years, significantly reduce Web content typically to 15% or less of its original file size. This allows Web pages to load much more quickly and has the added benefit of greatly reducing network capacity. Skweezer technology is completely platform independent and can be used with Pocket PC, Palm, Symbian, MS Smartphone, Blackberry, PSP2, and XHTML-based cell phone devices.

SoftMaker Office 2006 for Windows released  Tuesday, September 5 2006

German software vendor SoftMaker has released a major update to its popular SoftMaker Office application suite. SoftMaker Office 2006 for Windows includes updates to both TextMaker 2006 and PlanMaker 2006, two popular stand-alone applications, combined into one integrated package. SoftMaker Office 2006 for Windows offers a cost-effective, compatible and competitive package for those looking for alternatives to the traditional Microsoft Office suite.

SoftMaker Office 2006 for Windows is composed of two popular office applications. TextMaker 2006 is a powerful word processor that is fully compatible with the latest release of Microsoft Word.
PlanMaker 2006 is a feature-rich spreadsheet application that is completely compatible with Microsoft Excel. Together, TextMaker 2006 and PlanMaker 2006 cover most of the functions users require from office suites, all in a user-friendly application suite. SoftMaker Office 2006 for Windows loads incredibly quickly, eliminating the delays associated with other vendors' office applications. SoftMaker Office 2006 for Windows is also highly reliable, with no crashes or surprises even on the largest documents or spreadsheets! SoftMaker Office 2006 for Windows uses a dBase-compatible database, allowing for easy integration between applications.

Compatibility is a key advantage of SoftMaker Office 2006 for Windows. Microsoft Office formats are fully supported by SoftMaker Office 2006 for Windows, as are many other formats in use today including OpenOffice.org and OpenDocument formats. Both TextMaker
2006 and PlanMaker 2006 let users set their default file formats to Microsoft Word or Excel so there is never a compatibility issue with Microsoft Office. SoftMaker Office 2006 for Windows has low demands on hardware and operating system: It runs on any version of Windows, even Windows 95, and is satisfied with low-end or older computers.

SoftMaker Office 2006 for Windows is now available for download, priced at US$69.95 or EUR 69.95. Versions of SoftMaker Office 2006 for Linux, FreeBSD, Pocket PCs and Windows CE.NET will be released soon. Upgrades for earlier versions of SoftMaker Office, TextMaker or PlanMaker are available at lower prices. As an alternative to the high price of Microsoft Office or the limited technical support offered for OpenOffice.org, SoftMaker Office 2006 for Windows is a winning office application software package. For more information, visit http://www.softmaker.com

SoftMaker has also refreshed its educational sponsorship program with the release of SoftMaker Office 2006 for Windows. Spb Software House Releases Spb Diary 2.0  Tuesday, August 29 2006

August 29, 2006 - Spb Software House, the leading Windows Mobile software developer, releases Spb Diary 2.0, a major update to the award winning Pocket PC PIM Today plug-in.

For the 16 months that Spb Diary has been on the market it has become a "must have" application and now holds a firm place among the top-selling Pocket PC applications. For many users, Spb Diary is the first application they install on a brand new device. In 2005, this application was the finalist in Microsoft's Mobile2Market contest and in 2006, Spb Diary won one of the most recognized prizes: the Shareware Industry Award for "Best Program for PDA's".

Spb Diary 2.0 is a feature-rich Today plug-in for your Calendar, Tasks, Contacts, Notes and Messages providing users with the highest level of functionality and usability. Since the release of the very first version, Spb Software House has been constantly collecting and analyzing users' feedback, which has allowed the developer team to concentrate on the most often requested features. Spb Diary is even more powerful and convenient to use. The new version introduces a bundle of new features like photo contacts, handy contact dialing, full stylus-free navigation, Special Events tab, PhatNotes integration and skin support as well as improved speed, better usability and many other changes. Considering the great amount of new features, it's amazing that the new version of Spb Diary is faster in performance, more optimized in memory management, and takes up the same storage space on the device when compared to the previous 1.7.6 version.

Here is a brief overview of the new features and main changes introduced in Spb Diary 2.0:

* Photo contacts and handy dialing - Dialing a person's number is now as simple as tapping a contact once to open a detailed popup and once again to dial. This feature will be greatly appreciated by owners of Phone Edition Pocket PC devices. Enabling the photo contacts feature significantly increases usability since the most important contacts can be represented with photos right on the Today screen.

* Stylus-free navigation - Spb now offers a robust multi-function application as Spb Diary with complete one-hand, stylus-free control. This feature has been requested by many users and the current implementation makes it really handy to use without a stylus. It is usability at a new level! Quickly find a contact and dial it with just a few hardware button presses. Spb Diary is the only Today plug-in in the mobile world that supports action-and-hold, the hardware analog version of tap-and-hold.

* Database engine improvements - Initial loading is now faster (up to 10 times in some situations) and memory management is improved.

* Special Events tab - Special Events tab is the best way to quickly overview all those birthdays and anniversaries from the user's contact list and/or Spb Finance scheduled transactions over a long period of time. For convenience sake, these events can be grouped by months or by weeks for the current month.

* Easy document management with Notes tab - In the new version, along with standard notes one can now see text documents (.txt, .rtf and .doc files), as well as PhatNotes notes (these features were requested by a lot of Spb Diary users after one year of using the Notes).

* Skin support - The whole look of Spb Diary can now be personalized with the use of skins. Two skins are included into the standard package and since the skin format is open, more nice third-party skins are getting available.

* Many other changes and improvements - Spb is constantly gathering new feedback while Pocket PC manufacturers are constantly pleasing us with new devices. Spb Diary has been seriously updated in answer to the needs of most Pocket PC users and in order to adapt to new Pocket PC devices.

Demand for Mobile Access to Social Networking Sites Growing  Monday, August 21 2006

IRVINE, Calif., August 21, 2006—Skweezer users are visiting social networking sites with increasing frequency, displacing traditional Web portals and search engines among the list of most visited sites.

According to Greenlight Wireless, MySpace is the first social networking site to appear among the top five most highly visited sites by Skweezer's mobile users, which was determined by a weekly traffic report generated for the first week of August. Similar sites that allow users to share information and meet online, such as Flickr, del.icio.us, and Friendster, have also experienced rapid uptake by Skweezer users in recent months. As a result of the growing popularity of link sharing services, Skweezer has a new feature that allows users to save browsing favorites to del.icio.us, Furl, Simpy or BlinkList from their cell phone or PDA.

"In the last quarter, we've partnered with a number of search, bookmarking, RSS, and shared media sites to mobile-enable their content," says Kevin Perkins, CEO of Greenlight Wireless. "When combined with Advertizer, our mobile advertising solution, these social networks can now effectively monetize their free content onto the third screen."

Skweezer is a free service that optimizes Web pages, searches, and e-mail for use on PDAs and cell phones. Mobile Internet users access Skweezer by visiting www.skweezer.net, then use the portal as a "wireless gateway" to browse and search the Web.
